30th July 2013Calling All Female Fishmongers!
On August 8th Heston Blumenthal and his crew will be filming around Brixham harbour and on the replica of Sir Francis Drake's Golden Hind ship. Brixham was specially chosen as a location for his programme as it is a working fishing village.
This series of Heston's Fantastical Food for Channel 4 will focus on dishes that built Britain and will have a mix of history, great British heritage, science and fantasy which Heston incorporates into his dishes.
Each week, Heston will take a different iconic British dish, deconstruct it and then rebuild it to be as glorious – and delicious - as possible.
They are looking for a female fishmonger whom is fairly young and charismatic from the Torquay area or someone from the South of England that would be happy to travel to come and take park in the programme.
If you would be interested in taking part, or know someone that would be - please contact Helen Leftwich as soon as possible either through our contact form or telephone number on the contact page
30th July 2013EU Investigating card charges for merchants
Merchants incur considerable costs to process the payments made in their stores, be they by cash, card or other payment instrument. Improving the efficiency of the European payments market is an important policy goal of European public authorities. Among others, card payment fees have been increasingly scrutinised by regulatory and competition authorities in Europe. In particular, the European Commission has opened a number of investigations in this area.
Through a survey, the Commission is seeking to collect more information on the payments market, in particular on the usage of various payment means in the retail sector. The results of this survey, to which we kindly ask you to participate, will support the European Commission's analysis of the use of different payment instruments and its antitrust investigations of the fees charged by the various payment schemes. We would therefore encourage you to participate in the survey.
The survey targets merchants active in the retail trade and services sectors in 10 EU Member States (Austria, Belgium, Germany, Spain, the UK, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden).
The questions relate to the annual number of transactions and the turnover your business makes with the various payment means that your company accepts. You can find these data in your accounting system, statements of your acquirer/provider or by making estimations and extrapolating to a yearly basis.
Participation to the survey is simple: please click on the link below, click on "First Time Users" and fill-out the survey. http://dexsurvey.deloitte.com/?xid=49993
The Commission has selected Deloitte to support this survey. If you have further questions, please contact Hans Demeyere or Leopold de Maere at Deloitte by phone on + 32 471 403916 or + 32 475 782621 or by e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.

19th June 2013Fishy Date for Cardiff
The UK's top fishmongers are sharpening their knives in preparation for the ultimate contest - the hugely popular British Fish Craft Championships 2013 to be held in Cardiff Bay on August 23-26, the late summer Bank Holiday weekend.
Veteran Cardiff fishmonger, Mike Crates, 55, famed for coming runner-up no less than 20 times will again be giving the big one a shot on Sunday, August 25.
"I love the atmosphere and I enjoy competing, and I always come away with trophies, so there's every reason to keep going," he says. "And it would be great to finally win the big one after coming second so many times."
The reigning champion is Gopal Nandy, who works for M&J Seafood in Birmingham.
"It's rare for anyone to win two years in succession, and if I manage to retain the crown, I'll be the first person to do so for many, many years, so that's a big motivator," he says. "We are judged on speed and presentation, so I am refining my skills from now until the competition, to make sure that I'm on top form."
Entries for the British Fish Craft Championships 2013 are expected from all over the UK, with entries received last year from as far afield as Cornwall, Norfolk, Yorkshire and London.
The 2013 event is the 61st British Fish Craft Championship, and will be the fifth year that it has been held in Cardiff - forming part of the city's Harbour Festival.
Last year a massive three tons of fresh fish was skinned, filleted, trimmed and sliced by the competing fishmongers, and a similarly huge haul will be passing beneath the fishmongers' knives this year.
All this fabulous, expertly handled fish will be sold to the public at bargain basement prices.
Throughout the weekend, fishmongers will be on hand to give advice to the public on how to deal with their catch.
The Bank Holiday Monday will also feature oyster opening.

He is looking for as much help as they can get for the challenge and is looking for other willing federation members to display a charity can, which they will send out, in their shops - to help raise money for this great cause - and help with with the challenge.
Further information on the challenge can found by watching Duncan Bannatynes video on YouTube which can be found by clicking here

20th May 2013BBC looking for Fishmongers for new documentary series
Motivate Films are currently making a 10 part series for the BBC, looking for small (6 staff members minimum) to medium sized businesses in the UK.
The series focuses on challenges faced by small to medium businesses in the UK in a tough economic climate and we want to show business how to cope and prosper.
The premise of the show is how independently run companies in the UK could change their marketing strategy to generate more footfall and cope in the current climate. This looks like an amazing opportunity for any business in the local community. They're looking to hear from and speak to companies who might benefit from some marketing advice.
If you would like to take part, or would like further information - please click here to view their contact flyer!
